Deluxe Felt Derby - Black [000399]

Americans call it a derby, after the Earl of Derby who helped popularize it. But, Englishmen know it as a bowler as it was first introduced in the early-1850's in England and produced by the Bowler Brothers Company. It crossed the pond to America in the 1860's and remained popular well past the turn of the century.

Our best quality derby is made of black felt, lined, and just perfect for the period look.

USA-made, with removable decorative feather and a 2" brim. Available in sizes M-2XL, in several colors.

My fiance and I were both very pleased with the quality of this hat. I think that the feather was very cute, but he didn't care for it. We purchased this hat for him, but it was a little small so I kept it for myself ordered the XL in the brown deluxe felt derby for him. Just the fact that we decided to keep this hat and order another one tells you that the quality is beyond expectations. With that in mind, these were purchased to accompany our steampunk costumes so I am not sure if this is the hat for a formal event or something like that.

distinctively...

this slick black hat is stylish and sophisticated, and will transform any menial looking lad into a renowned gentleman and magically protudes a mans good qualities from the surface of his bad qualities.P.S try not to wear this on casual occasions, you generally will end up looking "quite silly"

Unfortunately, this hat is not a Coke/Bowler/Derby at all. At the very most it is an acceptable approximation of one. Closer inspection reveals its inferior quality and it should decidedly not be worn on formal occasions or when the quality and not just the look of one's garments is of the essence. But I expected as much, as it is plain off the picture if one knows what to look for. Even so, I bought both a black and a brown one for product sampling and decoration purposes only. When the hats arrived -- a lot sooner than expected, I must say -- I directly removed both the pins and the feathers. Pins are for women's hats only (to keep them in place) and for those who want to sport feathers in their hats these should really be acquired...
An excellent chapeau Apr 4, 2011

I have a black and a brown deluxe derby: both are very nice and better quality and cheaper than anything I've been able to find locally. The feathers are easily removable, and easy to put back for a change of style.
A Very Fine Hat for a Fine Price Mar 4, 2011

This derby is constructed excellently. It has a great shape, stiff fabric, and goes well with many historical and anachronistic styles. For the price, it is quite a find. Most historical hats of this quality go for near two or three times this price at the local haberdashery. I wear mine with my historical outfits, daily clothing, and even equestrian attire for that gentlemanly touch of class.
